Saturday Evening Post

The quartet hails from Colorado Springs, Colorado.The Saturday Evening Post are proud members of the Southwest District (District of Champions) with Allen, Johnny and Bobby being members of the Town North Plano Chapter and Brian being a member of the Dallas Vocal Majority. They also are the music team for the Colorado Springs Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The quartet is currently ranked as one of the top 10 in the World of Barbershop having finished 9th in the 2002 International Competition held in Portland, Oregon.

Allen Gasper, a former professional opera singer with Masters degree in Voice is the Lead singer.  Allen is a renowned attorney in the Colorado Springs area, although we don't hold that against him. He is a certified "Singing" Category Judge and is a member of the Plano, Texas and Colorado Springs, Co. Chapter.  Allen is the quartet's only bonafide "Cajun".

Johnny Sherburn (Tenor), is best known in the Barbershop World as "Zeppo" of the New Tradition Quartet (1985 International Champions) where he sang with Bobby and masqueraded as one of the famous "Marx Brothers".  He has also garnered many medals as lead (one of many) of the 139th Street Quartet.  Recently, he has been touring with the "Diamonds" (of "Little Darlin'" fame). Johnny was born at a very early age and started his singing career shortly thereafter.  It must run in the family as his sister, Rebecca, is a world-class opera singer.  Johnny is a member of the Plano, Texas Chapter of SPEBSQSA.

Brian Beck (Bass), is the answer to the trivia question "Who is the only man in the history of the Society to finish in the top 10 singing each of the four parts?" He currently resides in Colorado Springs, directs the Colorado Springs Men's Chapter, and is fondly known as our "two-timer", having won the International Gold Medal with the Dealer¹s Choice (1973) and the Side Street Ramblers (1983).Brian is well known for his studio work on jingles and band arrangements and does most of the vocal arrangements for the group. He is a certified judge in the "Singing" category.

Bobby Gray Jr. (Baritone) is also a resident of Colorado Springs. He has been directing Barbershop Choruses for over 25 years and is an assistant director for the Colorado Springs Men's Chapter. Bobby is a certified judge in the Presentation category and faculty for the Society's Harmony College in St. Joseph, MO. Bobby also has won a Gold Medal playing "Harpo" with the New Tradition Quartet in 1985.  He works in the legal profession with Allen and serves as the contact for the quartet.  Bobby is also a member of the Plano, Texas Chapter of SPEBSQSA.

Though only formed in 1998, the SEP, as they are known, are Rocky Mountain District Champions. With an obvious allegiance and love for true barbershop form, songs such as "Let's Get Away From It All," "Tonight, Tonight" and "Heart And Soul," though not originally conceived as quartet material, have lost all trace of swing and Broadway, and are zinging examples of vertical harmony. The tag of "Stormy Weather," to name just one, shows the Post staking its territory without equivocation, cleverly invoking the blues feel and sealing the deal with a tenor pedal tone over the top. "The Clown Medley" and "Gospel Medley" invoke the nostalgia of turn-of-century Americana.
