An exceptional collection of Appalachia folk music, Tellin' it on the Mountain takes listeners on an inspiring musical journey back to a simpler time in our nation's history. The music is arranged by local composer Samuel Lancaster, who has composed dozens of works for the Colorado Children's Chorale through the years. Lancaster describes the music as 'a collection of valuable antiques.' At times beautifully simple, the music moves the listener through sweet, whimsical grooves to powerfully complex harmonies and pure excitement. Inspired by Appalachia's traditional Christmas 'all-night watch' services where people gathered to sing until the Morning Star appeared, Lancaster calls Tellin' it on the Mountain a 'remembrance of people gathering to look for new life and new hope.' This CD also features two Chorale favorites never before available on one recording: 'Christmas in Colorado' and 'This Christmastide.' |
