Folk songs have been an important part of the King's Singers repertoire since their first recording days in l972. On this recording of folk songs from the British Isles, the arrangers who have been so important to the success of the group bring their talents to bear on music of their own homelands. Daryl Runswick, Goff Richards, Grayston Ives and Gordon Langford have all added multiple arrangements to the recording. In order to embellish the traditional feel of the songs, some instrumentation has been added. There is just a touch of piccolo at the end of 'Bobby Shaftoe,' for example. A solo cello plays on 'O Waly, Waly' ('The Water Is Wide'). 'Bugeilo'r Gwenith Gwyn' ('Watching The White Wheat') is a Welsh tune, sung in Welsh, with a harp accompaniment. Take a tour of the British Isles via folk songs from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales presented with the choral perfection which we have come to expect from The King's Singers.
