40-strong, all male Cambridge Chord Company (CCC), the 1999-2000 champion British Barbershop chorus, has probably won more awards than any other chorus of its kind since it sang its first harmonies 12 years ago. In 1994 CCC became the first small chorus ever to win the Silver Medal at the British Association of Barbershop Singers' (BABS) annual convention. Often competing against choirs four or five times their size, CCC were BABS silver medalists three times, BABS Chorus Champions in 1999 and 2002, Millennium Joint Barbershop Harmony Chorus Champions 2000 and European Champions in 2001. In July 2003 CCC placed 11th in the International Barbershop Competition in Montreal, the highest place a British Chorus has ever achieved! Here are 13 spirited songs from the group's repertoire‹some nice medleys, including "Sweet Sixteen Medley," "Button Up Medley" and "Tramp Medley." "Roses of Picardy," "Do I Love You?," an impressive "My Funny Valentine," a very funny "Welsh Rhapsody," "Raining In My Heart," "My Ship," "Ol' Man River," "Shangri-La" and the title tune, "Teddy Bear's Picnic." This is powerful, ringing, funny‹the stuff great live performances are made of. British Barbershop is coming! |
